Sex reassignment

A reassignment procedure refers to a medical or surgical procedure (or combination of both) to alter the genitals and other sexual characteristics of a person, so that the person will be identified as a person of the opposite sex.

For a child, this includes any procedure or procedures to correct or eliminate ambiguities in sexual characteristics.

Apply for a recognition certificate

A person who has undergone a procedure to change to the opposite gender can apply for a recognition certificate, although the rules can vary between states.
