Urgent help

If you are in a life-threatening or urgent situation phone 000.

In storm or flood emergencies phone 132 500.

To get non-urgent police attendance phone 131 444.

Crisis Care

To get urgent help outside office hours, phone the Crisis Care phone service on 131 611.

The service operates from 4.00 pm to 9.00 am on weekdays and 24 hours on weekends and public holidays.

Crisis Care assists people in crisis as a result of:

  • child abuse or neglect
  • children needing foster care or other alternative care
  • domestic violence
  • high-risk adolescence behaviour or need
  • parent-child disputes
  • homelessness
  • urgent financial need
  • suicidal behaviour
  • personal trauma
  • natural disasters like floods.

If a crisis happens on a weekday between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm, contact your nearest Families SA office.

Disability Services After-hours Service

If you need help outside office hours phone the Disability Services After-hours Service on 8372 1414. Assistance with personal care is included within this service.

National Disability Abuse and Neglect Hotline

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse or neglect, phone 1800 880 052 to contact the National Disablity Abuse and Neglect Hotline, open from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm every day. TTY 1800 301 052.

The National Disability Abuse and Neglect Hotline is an Australia-wide phone hotline for reporting abuse and neglect of people with disabilities using government-funded services. Abuse and neglect can include physical, sexual, psychological, legal and civil abuse, restraint and restrictive practices, or financial abuse, and withholding of care or support that exposes an individual to harm.

Anyone can contact the hotline - a person with disability or a friend, relative, advocate or guardian, service worker or member of the public. Allegations are referred to the appropriate authority for investigation.

Family Accommodation, Information and Referral Service: Support for people seeking emergency accommodation. Phone: 1800 003 308


Family Drug Support Helpline: Support and information for people who are living through the drug dependence of a family member. Phone: 1300 368 186.


Gambling Helpline: Support and information about gambling. Phone: 1800 060 757 (24 hours).


Kids Helpline: You can speak with someone about what's going on at home, if a friend needs help, if something's bothering you at school, if you're feeling sad or confused or anything else you want. Phone: 1800 551 800.


Lifeline: If you feel that you might need phone counselling, you can call about anything that might be troubling you. Phone: 131 114.


Mental Health: Assessment and Crisis Intervention Service (ACIS): ACIS is the main point of access to the public adult mental health service in South Australia. Phone: 131 465 (statewide emergency crisis).


Parent Helpline: Information about health, behaviour and relationships. Phone: 1300 364 100 (24 hours).


Postnatal depression help at beyondblue. Phone the Parent Helpline on 1300 364 100 (24 hours) for immediate assistance. 


Pregnancy Advisory Centre: support around unplanned pregnancy. Phone: 8243 3999. SA country free call 1800 672 966.


State Emergency Service: The State Emergency Service offers assistance during emergencies and disasters and provides assistance in day-to-day incidents such as vehicle accidents, searches, cliff rescues, flood and storm damage situations and any other incidents that might require rescue or search services. Phone: 132 500.


Women's Information Service: help and advice on relationships, legal matters, housing, finances, material assistance, work, education and preventing violence. Phone: 1800 188 158.
