When looking for a property to buy you will need to think about what you need. It is a good idea to attend as many open inspections as possible to get an overall idea of the layout you prefer and the amenities you need.
Compare prices of similar properties in the same area to get an idea of what price you could expect to pay.
Always thoroughly
inspect a property you are interested in.
Some things to consider include:
- the area - do you know the area, are you close to work or school
- facilities - are there shops, parks and public transport nearby
- supports - is it close to family, friends or medical supports
- house size - how many bedrooms do you need
- garden or yard - can you look after a large property or garden
- would you prefer an older or newer property
- are you prepared to carry out some renovations and to what extent, would council regulations impact on your decision
- the neighbourhood - speak to neighbours, the agent or the vendor and ask their opinion of the neighbourhood, visit the property at different times of the day to see if there are any problems - eg noisy neighbours.
The best places to find properties available for sale are:
- newspaper advertisements
- internet searches
- real estate agents
- word of mouth.
