Moving house

Before moving:
  • arrange for mail to be redirected
  • organise services and utilities to be disconnected at the old house and reconnected at the new property
  • notify relevant services and authorities of your change of address – eg electoral roll, Centrelink
  • arrange for all belongings to be removed from the house – donate, bin or pack them
  • clean the house and remove any rubbish.

Change your address on the certificate of title

If you are moving out of a property that you own and plan to keep you should change your address on the certificate of title.  If you don't do this, your old address will remain on the certificate of title, and notices such as water bills and council rates will continue to be sent to your old address.

If you are selling the property you don't need to register a change of address.
