Some houses in Aboriginal communities are managed by the local community while others are managed by Housing SA. Housing SA are responsible for maintaining their houses and rent is paid to them. There is a
Housing SA office in Umuwa as well as others located throughout the State.
Existing houses in the community will be brought to a safe and habitable standard and new houses will be built. So far the Umuwa Housing SA office has allocated households into new houses in the communities of Amata, Mimili and Fregon.

Moving back to your community
If you need to move back to a community where you have cultural or family ties, contact the local Housing SA office. You will need to provide information to explain your need to return to your community.
Your application for a house will be assessed by Housing SA and the local Aboriginal community. This is to ensure that you are eligible for housing and you will be notified of the outcome.
If your application has been approved, you will be notified as soon as a suitable house is available. Bring with you any forms or documents that have been requested by Housing SA so that your rent can be calculated and a tenancy agreement for the new house signed.
