Support and advice for Aboriginal people aiming to secure or retain a private rental property

Accessing Aboriginal private rental liaison officer services

There is an Aboriginal private rental liaison officer based in Adelaide that assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are having difficulty finding and securing suitable private rental accommodation.

The liaison officer can provide advice and practical assistance with:

  • finding a suitable private rental property
  • what you need to do as a tenant, including information on your rights and responsibilities
  • referrals to other organisations that could help you.

You may be eligible for assistance if you have:

  • no previous private rental experience or history
  • poor literacy or English language skills
  • difficulty understanding forms and dealing with the rental process.

You may also be able to get help if you are at risk of losing your current private rental property.

If you would like to be referred to the Aboriginal private rental liaison officer you will need to be assessed by Housing SA.

For more information on other support services that may be able to help see Help to secure a private rental property.
